“He’s Good For The Industry”

“He’s good for the industry.”

I was talking to a photographer in my network about my cousin. This photographer said my cousin was “good for the industry.” My cousin moved out to LA two weeks after he graduated college, and started working for Jeremiah Davis’ production company, TOBK Studios. He learned quick, worked hard, and treated everyone he met with respect and kindness.

That’s what garnered this compliment from my photographer friend.

I was struck by how simple and powerful that description was.

“He’s good for the industry.”

This is a description we should all strive for. Whatever industry we find ourselves in. We vastly over-estimate the impact our work can have on people. And we vastly under-estimate the impact our words and actions can have on our communities.

My cousin makes the environments he’s in better environments to be in.

When you find yourself exactly where you always wanted to be, and when you find yourself doing work you don’t quite want to be, there’s still something incredible you can always be: good for your industry.
