The Trajectory of Success

“Follow a trajectory where what you want is a possible outcome.”
–James Clear

This is great advice. But first, you need to decide what you want. A lot of people who read blogs like this have a decent idea of what they want. So I’ll assume that’s the case for you.

The next step is to show up to the places where success happens. And to show up as often as the successful people do. That’s what designing a trajectory looks like.

And, just for the record, getting magically discovered as a prodigy by a record label (or a movie studio or a publishing house) isn’t part of the trajectory. That’s just daydreaming. But contributing enough valuable work to the space you want to be in for long enough to get noticed? That is the trajectory.

Finally, I grew up in a town where people said the chances success in entertainment and sports were “one in a million.” In a way, they were right. For all the people who secretly wanted to achieve something, but never did anything, success was one in a million. But in a bigger way, they were wrong. For all the people following a deliberate trajectory to get what they want, and sticking to it, success is much more likely.

Good luck out there.
