How to find locations for videos

My favorite place to find locations for videos is through Peerspace. Peerspace is like Airbnb, but for film locations. People can list their homes, studios, bars, offices, or open fields as locations for rent on Peerspace.

When I’m producing a video and need to book a location, I start by narrowing down a short list of options that fit the criteria we’re looking for based on style, amenities, location, and budget. Then, I reach out to each one with a direct message inquiring about their availability. I explain what we’re filming, when we need to film, and the size of my cast and crew.

Once I reach out, many will respond within a few hours. This gives me a good list of options (that I know are available) to present to the director, the brand, or other producers on the project. After I show them the short list of options, a decision about which one we should pick becomes pretty clear.

After I get the green light from the team, I’ll make a booking request through Peerspace. Peerspace takes credit cards, unlike most locations, which makes booking them in advance lower-risk because you don’t have to front all that cash. Once the location is booked, everything else in the production falls into place, because you know where you’re going, and when.

P.S. I just launched a producing guide that goes in-depth on the other ways I find and book locations, models, talent and more. Check it out here!
