Why You Should Have A Mouthful of Cold Spinach

This morning I grabbed a handful of raw, cold spinach, and put it all in my mouth at once.

The strange thing is, it was one of the most normal parts of my morning.

I’ve been eating a handful of raw spinach before breakfast virtually every day since 2018. I knew I wasn’t eating enough vegetables, and with my unpredictable schedule, my lunches and dinners were inconsistent too. But breakfast was a priority for me, so I decided to put a handful of raw spinach on top of my eggs and toast, so that I had to eat my way through the spinach before I could have the rest of my breakfast.

This is an example of a very small, seemingly insignificant 1% change that has little to no short-term benefits, but significant long-term benefits.

Pay attention to the things you do every day. If you can make 1% improvements on those daily actions, the compound interest of your good decisions will multiply into significant benefits over the long-term.

Think of what you eat every day. What you drink every day. What you read, watch, and listen to every day. 1% changes really stack up into something meaningful when they’re done every day.

Listening to one podcast is unlikely to alter the course of your business in any significant way. But listening to one podcast every day will have hugely positive effects on your mind and learnings over the course of a few years.

Want to integrate this concept into your life? Make a list of the things you do every day. Then write a 1% better version of that action next to it. You’ll quickly see opportunities for long-term growth. Here’s a list to get you started:

Brush teeth -> Brush teeth with electric toothbrush
Drink water -> Drink filtered water
Stretch -> Stretch and do 5 pushups
Scroll Instagram -> Scroll personal finance TikTok
Eat breakfast -> Eat spinach with breakfast
