Don’t Punt the Feeling

If you’re working toward a goal, it’s probably because you want to feel a certain way about yourself. You think that once you publish that book, or make that figure, or sell that business, you’ll finally feel accomplished.

But what if you don’t punt the feeling? What if you don’t wait to feel good about yourself? What if you decided to feel that way now?

I’m not talking about delayed gratification. If you want to set goals and reward yourself for those, that’s great. I’m talking about the basic stuff–the essence of a rich life stuff. Confidence. Peace. Gratitude. Patience. Love.

Don’t punt any of these things. Because these are feelings you can only learn, not earn. No amount of money, or success, or fame will bring you the feelings you truly desire. Do you know how you learn gratitude? By saying thanks for the money you have now. Do you know how you learn peace? By letting go of specific outcomes, and accepting what you’ve been given now.

So get to work. It’s what life is all about. Chase your passions. But just remember: good feeling comes from a good identity. Where are you getting your identity from?
