What's The Goal?

Don’t ever give blind feedback or advice. Always take time to understand the goal first.

It can be tempting to jump in and give feedback, especially if you have experience in something.

But the world is largely subjective, and when we don’t understand the goal, we don’t make good decisions.

A commercial director with 30 years of experience might suggest a better camera than a GoPro for a TV commercial. But if he doesn’t understand the brand’s goal to disrupt the typical commercial break, then his advice is plain wrong.

A team in which everyone is thinking hard about the same goal is worth much more than a single outsider “genius”.

Because geniuses are subjective within their fields anyway.
