Consuming vs Contributing

On social media, we can choose to consume or contribute. We can coast or capitalize.

The thing about consuming and coasting is that these are passive choices. All we have to do is show up, and the rest comes easy.

Contributing and capitalizing, however, are active choices. It takes energy and thought to engage in these.

The people I know who become the most bogged down by social media are the consumers. They always observe, are quick to critique, but slow to speak their mind.

The people I know who gain the most value from social media are the contributors. They create, curate, and connect. They cut down perfectionism at the knees and drive onward.

Maybe we focus too much on the platform and not enough on the attitude.
