The Best Of Seth Godin

If you’ve been around my blog or socials for longer than one month, you know I adore Seth Godin. His insights into freelancing, business, and culture are unparalleled, and he contributes helpful work every single day.

The only problem with Seth Godin is that he has so many pieces of work that it can be intimidating to know where to start. In this Blog, I’ll lay out my favorites from Seth and give you insights into who they’re best suited for.

For Freelancers

This podcast on the difference between Freelancers and Entrepreneurs is seminal, and it brought me instant clarity as to why some of my first ventures failed. He lays out a common pathway that Freelancers fall into, and a better alternative to create work you’re proud of for great clients.

The Freelancers Workshop starts in a few days. Join me! Seth’s workshops are (Hint click on the purple circle beneath the price button and you’ll get a big discount).

For Team Leaders (or people wanting to make a difference at their jobs)

Linchpin. This is one of Seth’s most popular books, and with good reason. Seth convinces anyone with a job to make a difference in their organization by becoming a linchpin. Linchpins, as Seth describes, defeat The Resistance, lead regardless of job title, ship projects, love their jobs, and become irreplaceable within their organizations. You have to check it out, it has ushered me into the best two month of work in my life so far.

Entrepreneurs

Startup School. Binge this over the next two weeks if you’ve ever thought about starting a business. You’ll gain about 3 years worth of trial-and-error knowledge all at once.

For Side Hustlers

The Bootstrapper’s Bible is a short, very clear roadmap for people who love starting little businesses and making money. It’s only about 100 pages, and it’s so helpful for anyone (like me) who didn’t grow up with an entrepreneurial family or mindset.

The Bootstrapper’s Workshop is another one of Seth’s workshops that I took last year. Seth lays out the four kinds of bootstrappers: Asset Owners, Labor Organizers, Jobbers, and Coordinators. You’ll be connected to a community of people who will challenge you to make your bootstrap business happen.

For Educators (and anyone who has been in school)

Stop Stealing Dreams. Just watch it, ok?

For Non-Profit People

Tribes is a great book about rallying communities to make a difference. It has very strong implications for the non-profit world, but can also be applied to community-focused businesses and other movements. I devoured this book on a long plane ride, and promptly gave it to my friend who actually does change the world. It’s a hot potato of knowledge that must be passed on.

For Fun

Watch Seth Godin threaten to walk off of Gary Vaynerchuk’s podcast because Gary kept cutting him off.

For Download

It’s obvious that I’m a huge fanboy of Seth, so I’ll just come right out and say it. You can download an iPhone wallpaper I made with the phrase “Linchpins Ship” on it that I use as a daily reminder to squash excuses and make creative ideas happen regardless of how I feel. You can download it here

Seth Godin should honestly just live forever, the world would be so much better if he did.
